The Aleph & Tav
(Jesus’ Signature)
By John Boda
We find the Alef Tav in the very first verse of scripture. In Genesis 1:1 there are 7 Hebrew words but only 6 get translated.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth
בראשׁית ברא אלהים את השׁמים ואת הארץ׃
The word directly in the middle is “ET” and this one small word is spelled using the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet “ALEF and TAV”.
Since most translators don’t know why it is there, it doesn’t get translated into English, but it IS there in the original Hebrew.
Another place this small word is found is in Zechariah12:10….They shall look upon Alef Tav whom they pierced….
Zec 12:10
.... והביטו אלי את אשׁר־דקרו ...
Here is the question “Who or what is the Alef Tav in these verses? “ Jesus is the one who would be pierced! It is his signature! In Revelation 1:8 Jesus tells John; He is the beginning and the end, the “Alpha and Omega” The translators used the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet since they were translating from the Greek. Yet, we know Jesus was a Jew and He would not have been speaking in Greek but in Hebrew. It should have been translated “I am the Alef and Tav.” using the first and last letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
In John 1:1 it says;
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and God was the Word.
Jesus - The Word of God
(The Alpha & Omega)
Jesus revealed Himself from the beginning to the end, he is the creator, and has left his personal signature for us in Genesis 1:1!
“..all things were created by him and for him.” Colossians 1:16
Just like when an artist completes a painting, he/she will put their signature in one of the corners so people will know who created it, it seems that God may have done the same!
But Genesis 1:1 is not only speaking of our earth, which is a beautiful masterpiece, but most agree it is speaking of the entire cosmos - all of the universe! We can't even comprehend the immense size of our Milky Way galaxy, yet the universe has many more galaxies than there are people on earth, with each galaxy filled with millions to hundreds of billions of stars! As I write this, I am holding a book in my hand entitled, "Alpha & Omega - The Search for the Beginning and the End of the Universe." Written by Charles Seife, who does not claim to be a Christian that I know of, but is a science journalist who writes for many science magazines. It is a very interesting book filled with awesome wonders and insight to be gleaned about our universe! However, for those of us who also believe in the absolute truth of the Bible...we have actually found the beginning and end of the universe...or more accurately, HE has found us! Our search and journey continues, but not trying to find meaning or some cosmic nirvana, but rather to know more of the awesome creator, the Alpha & Omega, who began it all and left us his signature, not only in the first verse of the Bible, but all around us in the things he created.
Grace & peace to you!
